Party at Penrhos!

On the 18th September the historic Penrhos Court, based above Kington, will be playing host to an evening of live music to raise funds for Herefordshire-based charity, Logistics Aid, which has been delivering essential supplies to Ukraine since March.

No stranger to a band or two, having previously welcomed members of Queen and Led Zeppelin, plus Mike Oldfield and Terry Jones of Monty Python fame, Penrhos is the perfect location for what promises a fantastic evening and music, set in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside,

Taking place from 4.30pm – 10pm, acts include ‘foot-stompin’ Americana inspired country rock band, Whiskey River, The Barebacks, a charismatic and contagious three-piece and The Gadd Brothers, James and Sean, previously part of rock band ‘Pirate Casino’. Sean went on to become a founding member of the Grammy nominated GROUPLOVE.

Food and a bar will also be available. Tickets are £20*, with all proceeds donated directly to Logistics Aid.

Penrhos Court’s owners, Mark Bentham and Laura Lane have kindly provided their fantastic venue for free. Mark said: “We are delighted to help support Logistics Aid’s amazing efforts. What the team has achieved over the past few months is phenomenal. Penrhos has an eclectic musical history, so it seems fitting that the famous Court once again opens its doors to a great selection of bands – an event that will not only entertain, but directly help such an important cause.”

About Logistics Aid

Logistics Aid is the brain child of Lyonshall farmer, Andrew Lloyd. Horrified by the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, he wanted to do something to help. Andrew put a call out on Facebook for drivers, vehicles, and assistance getting his cause off the ground and he was inundated with support; locally and from across the country – the first driver to go to Ukraine came from Norfolk.

Since March, Logistics Aid has raised over £40,000, sent aid to Ukraine on a regular basis and amassed the support of many volunteers and businesses across Herefordshire. All of the aid delivered is collected from donation points around the county.

Every trip costs around £2,000 in fuel and ferry crossings. With the war far from over, fundraising is desperately needed to keep this operation going.

About Penrhos Court

Penrhos Court, which provides holiday accommodation and dining at is on-site café, The Cattle Shed, is a group of grade 2* listed buildings dating back to the 13th century, with 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th-century additions.

Over the years, the walls of Penrhos have seen some fascinating history take place. Notably, in 1975, Queen spent three weeks here to rehearse the iconic Bohemian Rhapsody for their fourth studio album, A Night at The Opera. Later that decade, in 1977, Monty Python star and writer Terry Jones set up a microbrewery in our former cattle byre, kick starting the British micro-brewing revolution.

Mike Oldfield, famed for Tubular Bells, would also frequently be found sitting by the large inglenook fireplace playing his guitar for ‘payment’ in red wine! All of this, set against the beautiful backdrop of the Herefordshire countryside, is what makes Penrhos so unique.
