Driving for Logistics Aid - what to expect

We are extremely grateful to the drivers who have given up their time to transport aid to Ukraine - without them, our mission just wouldn’t be possible!

Aid deliveries leave Herefordshire most weeks and we are always on the look out for more volunteers willing to get behind the wheel. We need drivers with HGV Class 1 licences for our two 7.5 tonne lorries. We also have a van, which can be driven by anyone with a normal driving licence.

Interested in driving for us?

Before you sign on the dotted line, we want to make sure you know what you’re getting into…

How long will the journey take?

The whole trip takes four days, which includes a ferry journey from Harwich to the Hook of Holland and two nights in hotels along the way (we arrange this for you). This happens both to and from Ukraine. We can’t make exceptions to this schedule - it’s important that drivers rest to ensure their safety behind the wheel.

Please allow some flexibility to account for unavoidable disruptions. It usually goes fairly smoothly, but we don’t recommend putting yourself forward if you have to get home urgently at a certain time.

Will I be travelling alone?

Not usually, we try and arrange it so at least two of our vehicles go out at any one time. This means you’ll have support along the way and someone to chat to when you’re on the ferry!

Is it safe?

Yes, we currently don’t take aid into Ukraine on the Home Office’s recommendations. Supplies are delivered to a drop-off point in Warsaw, Poland.

How do I get involved?

Contact us through our website or Facebook and we’ll be in touch!
